Serial 24 secara secara resmi dihentikan setelah season ini, atau dalam istilah lain, day, 8. Artinya tidak ada season 9 . Sebagai gantinya adalah akan dibuat versi layar lebarnya. 24 bercerita tentang antisipasi terorisme, yang dilakukan Jack Bauer. Dan seperti umumya cerita anti terorisme, selalu ada seorang teman ahli komputer yang bekerja dibelakang sebagai support, dalam hal ini bernama chloe. Entah kenapa bernama sama dengan karakter ahli komputer di smallville. Dalam satu season terdiri dari 24 episode, setiap episode mewakili satu jam kejadian secara realtime. Jadi, akan selalu ada jam yang berjalan. Apabila ada iklan, menit akan tetap berjalan agar sesuai dengan running time. Itulah sebabnya serial ini sangat intense dan sangat dikejar oleh waktu. Biasanya dalam satu jam harus bisa membuka sebuah misteri atau mencegah sebuah serangan dengan informasi yang terbatas. Quote “we’re running out of time!” sangat sering diucapkan.

Jack bekerja dengan cara yang dia anggap benar, meskipun harus melawan pemerintahannya sendiri, asalkan serangan teroris berikutnya bisa dicegah. Hal seperti penyiksaan tahanan harus dia lakukan, dengan pembelaan kalau seorang teroris diperlakukan dengan hukum yang berlaku, maka serangan teroris dalam jam berikutnya gagal dicegah dan ribuan orang tanpa dosa menjadi korban. Ini memang seperti pembenaran sepihak terhadap aparat hukum untuk boleh melakukan, everything necessary, tindakan apapun, dengan alasan national security.Jack, yang bagi rekan prajurit dianggap pahlawan, harus menghadapi pengadilan / hearing senate atas tindakannya dalam perlawanan terhadap terorisme dengan melanggar HAM. Lucunya, senat yang mengadilinya mati dibunuh teroris, yang seakan membenarkan tindakan jack selalu benar. Masih ingat dengan kasus penjara abu ghuraib? Ada banyak cerita yang melibatkan stereotip orang amerika terhadap arab muslim amerika. Apakah khan, dari My Name is Khan perlu dimasukkan ke cerita? :)

Seperti umumnya hollywood, Jack dikisahkan sebagai prajurit yang tahan banting. Dipukul, disiksa, ditembak, diserang nuklir, roket, senjata biologis, masih tetap bertahan dan bisa menangkap musuhnya di akhir jam. Bagi yang familiar dengan joke Chuck Norris maka akan bisa mengenakan joke yang sejenis ke Bauer. Sebagai contoh, (spoiler)di season 7 jack terkena senjata biologis sehingga cuma punya waktu beberapa jam saja untuk bertahan hidup. Saya malah mengira kalau dia akan mati sebagai pahlawan amerika di akhir season. Di bagian jam terakhir dia malah sudah mengobrol dengan seorang kiai, fans banyak yang mengatakan kalau jack bertobat kemudian masuk islam di adegan ini, hal yang sebenarnya tidak terjadi karena tidak ada kalimat syahadat disitu :D . Setelah itu dilakukan operasi yang sebelumnya jack sendiri tidak mau melakukan, dan punya kemungkinan berhasil yang sangat kecil. Ternyata dia selamat.(/spoiler)

Sebelum season 7, 24 membuat sebuah film yang ditayangkan di tv, 24 Redemption, mengungkap banyak sisi manusia dari jack. Kalaupun nanti jack harus mati dibagian movie, masih bisa diterima kok, asalkan cerita yang dibuat benar-benar keren.

The show felt like a war on terror advertisement. When it wasn't profiling Arab's it was torturing them.

It centered around a Counter Terrorism Unit. Of course they are going to be going against terrorists. Considering the vast majority of terrorist plots against America are Arab I'm surprised they didn't use them more. I think 24 actually went out of its way to use Russians, Germans, and other Europeans a lot more than real statistics indicate.

No one cancels Jack Bauer- Jack Bauer cancels them!!! Who will fight the terrorists now?? - 24 you will be missed - Bring on the MOVIE!!!

SEND ME THOSE SCHEMATICS WHILE I DRIVE ALL THE WAY ACROSS LOS ANGELES IN 3 TO 5 MINUTES

I love this show, especially Seasons 1, 3 and 5. I truly believe that Season 5 was one of the greatest seasons of any television show on a basic network ever--the "threat" was small enough to be much more believable (instead of nukes going off in downtown California in a later season and whatnot), but big enough to be extremely tense and terrifying...Add to that the amazing acting of Gregory Itzin as the President and the deaths of many beloved characters (despite one of them coming back and being revealed as not really dead in a later season) and you had the making of some great television.

Too bad it went downhill quickly after that...Jack Bauer, you will be missed. Nobody will ever be able to deliver the line "Dammit, where is the nerve gas?!" and "Dammit, Chloe, we're running out of time!" with as much passion and urgency as you!

Chloe, I know you're under a lot of pressure...BUT WE NEED THOSE JOB OPENINGS NOW WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!!!

It was a Cheney/Bush era show. It's not needed now. I like Keifer Sutherland just fine. But the show has definitely run it's course.

It is sad to see an American show that justified and glorified torture come to an end. This show was about stopping terrorism with military tactics oftentimes including torture. In my mind now it seems that this could have been a direct attempt by govt officials to make torture more acceptable to the American people. Although the show was extremely entertaining to watch the context of the show is low brow at best and malicious at worst.

Thank goodness, I thought I was alone in thinking how stupid this was getting. Everywhere from the Whitehouse to CTU is full of traitors. In the lest series, someone please explain to me why the husband of the president would stop to get a coffee on the way to a meeting about his son’s killer. It was lazy writing (they needed some way to drug him). 24 lost it about 4 seasons ago.

No, not sweet. I will not sit in a movie theater for 24 hours. That’s ridiculous!

I just hope the series finale includes Jack Bauer killing Dana- the WORST character in 24 history!

Tips nonton 24: Berhentilah nonton kalau sebuah misteri hampir selesai, atau penjahatnya hampir mati, atau sandranya hampir selamat. Kalau dilanjutkan, misteri baru bakalan muncul, penjahat yang lebih big boss akan keluar atau sanderanya terbunuh 24.

Ini bukan dimaksudkan sebagai review, cuma kesedihan karena telat untuk tahu serial bagus seperti ini. Saya tahu 24 sejak dulu diiklankan akan ditayangkan di sctv, tapi baru sekarang menonton season 8, sampai episode yang baru saja di tayangkan, 12. Setelah itu ada berita ini tentang 24 tidak akan ada lanjutannya. Setelah melihat cerita dan aksi yang keren padahal dalam bentuk serial tv, saya menonton yang season 7 sampai selesai. Nanti mau beli yang season 5, yang katanya bagus banget.
